Who Are We?

Our purpose is to promote the Christian religion and the saving of souls, to help interpret Christianity to the world and to foster Christian fellowship.  We offer hope to all, as we have since our beginning.

We were founded in 1872 in the aftermath of the American Civil War, which ended in 1865.
  • 620,000 soldiers were killed (half of all deaths of US soldiers in all of our wars combined)
  • The total military casualties (killed, wounded and missing) was 1,500,000.
  • The above statistics do not include the civilian casualties.
  • The 1860 census counted almost 4 million slaves; about 12% of the US population.
  • Almost everyone had family or friends who died, suffered or were displaced.
Camp meetings were where people came, who were desperate. They heard the word of God and became a new creation.

Our vision today is that people will continue to find us as a refuge and a place of hope, healing and restoration.

“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.”
John 3:16-17 NLT

About us - Chester Heights Campmeeting is a parachurch, meaning we have no dedicated minister, pastor or priest, but we utilize clergy from other churches who are on our board of managers and one also holds the position of Spiritual Director. We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit association governed by our board of managers.  Our camp meeting site has three community structures, including a 6,000 square-foot, two-story multipurpose conference center, an open air performance gazebo which seats 125, a community bathhouse and 39 Victorian-style cottages.  Almost all of our buildings were originally built between 1880 and 1910, although several have been restored and modernized in recent years.
